You may recall from our discussion about Microsoft communication solutions that Microsoft is changing Lync to Skype for Business. This year, they will be releasing new Skype for business exams. As we stated in July MSCE moves retirement Lync exams, we expected that the new exams would be available by now.
The release has been moved to the January 2016 date. Microsoft isn’t announcing a specific date. Lync exams 335-336, 337-337, 337 and 338 will be retired within eight weeks of the new Skype for Business exams.
There is not much information yet about the upcoming Skype for Business exams; however, they will count towards MCSE Communications Certification. Lync 2013 exams are the basis for Skype for Business certification. You might consider getting certified now rather than waiting two more months.
Your certification will not be canceled if you pass the old Lync exams. It will be valid for three years after you are certified. After that time, you can recertify by passing new Skype for Business exams. We recommend that you look into Microsoft training materials if you are interested in more information about Skype for Business.
Skype for Business is based on Lync technology and offers very similar features and functionality. Lync 2013 exams are still the best way to learn Skype for Business. These comprehensive materials will help you understand what’s new in Skype for Business.
If you have Lync certification, you can still be certified by Microsoft Partner Network. Microsoft Partner Network will recognize you as a competent professional for at least the time your MCSE Communications Certificaiton remains valid. It is recommended that you keep up to date with the latest competency requirements for Microsoft Partner Network. You can find all current requirements on their website.
We are all waiting for more updates from Microsoft regarding Skype for Business. We will inform you about any upcoming news as soon as we can.
