Microsoft has partnered with MediaTek to produce chips instead of making them itself. Microsoft will verify that the chips are manufactured according to their standards. Galen Hunt, the company’s managing director, stated that these chips would be available in “significant numbers” this summer. Galen Hunt also stated that the chip is a key component of Azure Sphere because it “functions as a brain of the device, including its computing part and storage part, and the operating system.”
Microsoft has yet to announce a partnership with device makers for the Internet of Things. This means that we don’t know which IoT devices will be using a new technology.
